For Clubs

All BG clubs have a duty of care for the sport and those who take part in it. A club must do everything within its power to reduce or eliminate loss, injury or damage to others and it may be held legally liable if it fails to do so.

Your cover includes:

  • Legal Liability insurance - to protect the club and its committee against the cost of a claim made against you following loss, damage or injury to someone else or their property. Cover is provided up to a maximum limit of £15m.

  • Employers' Liability insurance - covers the club, or club committee, if it is held liable for an injury that an employee suffers during the course of their employment. The policy includes injuries to volunteers and the maximum limit of cover is £10m. This is a legal requirement.

  • Directors' & Officers' insurance - all club committee members have a personal liability for any claim that is made against the club for breach of duty. Examples include:

    • mismanagement of the club finances
    • breach of fire safety regulations
    • corporate manslaughter.

    Cover is provided specifically to protect club officials and committee members.

  • Legal expenses insurance - covers legal expenses and provides professional advice on a range of legal matters including employment disputes (and subsequent compensation awards), defence of legal actions against the club and protection in the event of tax investigations. Cover is provided to a maximum limit of £50,000 per claim.

The club is entitled to use a 24-hour legal advice helpline, which provides you with unlimited access to advice over the phone on any legal problem faced by the club.

Olympic promotion events

Throughout the summer of 2012 BG clubs will be invited to take part in a variety of different events aimed at promoting gymnastics specifically and sport in general.

Liability cover is provided to clubs for taking part in such events, provided that the event is based around their gymnastic activity. If your club is asked to participate in anything that is not gymnastics based, please refer to Perkins Slade to ensure that cover is in place beforehand.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no cover for events where members of the public are invited to "have a go". These are not classed as taster sessions, which should take place within a normal club environment. Allowing members of the public to take part in demonstrations is dangerous and can lead to serious injury.
