FAQs for coaches and judges
Q1 Where am I covered to coach?
The BG insurance policy will provide you with cover whilst you are coaching in any BG recognised environment.
Q2 Are leisure centres classed as recognised environments?
Currently a leisure centre is classed as a recognised environment if it is registered with BG or delivers a BG training programme. With effect from 1st January 2011, however, only leisure centres that are registered with BG will be classed as recognised environments.
Q3 What happens if I am coaching in an unlicensed leisure centre or other non-BG recognised environment?
In this case, you must make sure that you are covered by the insurance of the leisure centre you are working at.
Q4 If my membership lapses, how will this affect my insurance cover?
Liability Insurance provided by BG as part of your membership is on a "Claims Made" basis, which means that any claims made against the BG insurance can only be accepted if your membership is current at the time you first become aware a claim may be made against you. It is therefore essential to understand that if you were not to renew your British Gymnastics membership any claims made afterwards, relating to incidents not previously advised to insurers, will be excluded.
